Tyler Lockett, Seahawks Part Ways: What’s Next for the WR?

It was announced Wednesday morning that Tyler Lockett and the Seattle Seahawks have parted ways.

Lockett, 32, had been a core member of the franchise dating back to 2015 when he was drafted in the third round out of Kansas State. Quicker than a hiccup and a true route-running extraordinaire, he made All-Pro teams in each of his first three seasons in the league.

He has proven to be a very reliable player regardless of who was throwing him the rock. Lockett also has some value in the return game. Since breaking into the league, he’s gone over the 1,000-yard mark four separate times.

With Lockett now a free agent, speculation has already been building over a possible reunion with Pete Carroll. Carroll and Lockett competed together in Seattle for years. Carroll is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter believes this to be a possible union — and it would make sense considering Carroll is trying to build a new culture in Sin City.

Lockett is universally regarded as a high-character guy with a strong work ethic. Having these traits rub off on what should be a young roster isn’t the worst thing in the world.

This past year, Lockett caught 49 passes for 600 yards and 2 TDs. It was the fewest amount of receiving yards/catches he’s had in a season since 2017.
