The team reportedly signed free agent WR Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million contract with $26 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Entering the offseason, the receiver position was identified as a big need for a Patriots team heading into Year 2 with Drake Maye starting at quarterback. The 31-year-old Diggs is coming off ACL surgery but is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
Diggs’ new deal puts him in the top-20 among all receiver contracts. However, the low guaranteed money makes it a bit more team-friendly. At $26 million over three years, Diggs is guaranteed to make the same amount as Atlanta’s Darnell Mooney. Seattle’s reported deal with Cooper Kupp (three years, $45 million) features the same amount of guarantees as Diggs. Kupp and Diggs are both entering their age-32 season, and the former Ram hasn’t played more than 12 games in a season since 2021. Last season was the first time Diggs played less than 13 games in a year.
With their new signing, the Patriots now feature a receiver room that includes Diggs, Mack Hollins, Ja’Lynn Polk, DeMario “Pop” Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Javon Baker. Holding the No. 4 pick in April’s draft, the team may look to add another option for Maye before the season begins.
