The NFL’s reach into foreign markets will continue this upcoming season.

As was reported by ESPN, the Los Angeles Chargers will play their opening game of the 2025 season in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. It’s not yet clear as to which team LA will be facing.

This continues a newfound trend in NFL regular season games showcased for fans outside of the North American bubble. Last year, Green Bay and Philadelphia squared off in Brazil. We’ve seen numerous games played across the pond in London. Additionally, NFL contests have taken place in Mexico City.

A future game will be held in Berlin. The Chargers themselves are no stranger to playing in atypical locations. Aside from playing the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico six years ago, the Chargers played a preseason game in Tokyo back in 1976. It was the first game the NFL ever conducted outside of North America.

It will be fascinating to see whether the stadium in Brazil improves from a playing surface standpoint.

Multiple players complained about the field in Brazil — a surface more commonly used for soccer. Last year’s game was played at Arena Corinthians.
