In what was arguably the biggest storyline on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft, Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders was not selected in the first round.

He remains on the board with Day 2 set to begin Friday evening.

Sanders was not in attendance for the draft like many other prospects. As opposed to being in Green Bay, he was back home in his native Texas where a mock green room was beautifully built for him.

Though Sanders wasn’t present, he dominated much of the coverage on various channels airing the event. There was a thought he could go third overall to the New York Giants. Abdul Carter was instead selected out of Penn State. From there, the Pittsburgh Steeler were identified as a possible option. The Steeler instead went with Oregon DT Derrick Harmon.

The last glimmer of hope was when the Giants traded back into the end of the first round. New York took a quarterback — though it was Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss.

As the first round came to a close, one can assume Sanders now has a major chip on his shoulder. There’s no word on who could take him at this point. New Orleans could certainly use a young quarterback. The same can be said for the Los Angeles Rams.

Essentially, all eyes will be on the guy who recently had his college number retired despite playing at the school a few months prior.
