In a widely unexpected result, Japanese wrestling star IYO SKY defeated Rhea Ripley to win the Women’s World Championship in the main event of the March 3rd, 2025 edition of WWE Monday Night RAW on Netflix. It sets up a WrestleMania match between SKY and Bianca Belair. “The Eradicator” Ripley held the title since January 6th after she defeated Liv Morgan.
Ripley aimed to gain dominance early on in the match by using her power to target SKY’s weaknesses, using moves like a suplex off the top rope. Throughout the match, SKY paid homage to her Damage CTRL teammates by incorporating moves from each member — Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane — effectively swaying the momentum back in her favor.
Belair, who won the Women’s Elimination Chamber match on March 1st, was ringside to watch the match and unintentionally became the catalyst for Ripley’s downfall. Throughout the match, Belair was visibly cheering for SKY, which distracted Ripley. After the two had a back-and-forth shoving match outside the ring, Ripley attempted to do her signature Riptide on SKY off the middle rope. SKY countered with a hurricanrana and followed up with her signature Over the Moonsault for the pin.
SKY’s win means she maintains her undefeated record against Ripley in singles matches.
The result also sets up the intriguing possibility of a triple threat match at WrestleMania, as Ripley’s long rivalry with Belair and newfound grudge against SKY provides a compelling case for the match. It wouldn’t be unprecedented either, as Ripley has thrived in multi-competitor matches before.
“I have no words anymore. It’s surprising, but I made it, and the crowd gave such a great reaction to me. I’m going to WrestleMania now, right?”
“I will do my best and keep going, keep doing that. So, I believe in myself as always. I believe you guys. Damage CTRL for life.
Bianca Belair, I know she’s strong. She is muscular, also she’s EST. But I am the champ, I’m gonna defend this title. This is my title.”
