On Tuesday afternoon, Tiger Woods announced that he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon:

As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.

This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon. “The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken.

I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.

Woods, 49, is a 15-time major champion. Five of those triumphs have come at Augusta National Golf Club — home of The Masters. This year’s Masters is scheduled for April 10-13, meaning Woods will miss the first major of the season.

Woods was previously scheduled to compete in the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, but withdrew from the competition following the death of his mother, Kultida Woods.

The legend last competed in a PGA Tour event in July of 2024 — where Woods missed the cut at The Open. While he didn’t compete on the Tour this season, Woods played in four TGL matches. His last appearance was on March 4 in the final match of the regular season. Woods and his team, Jupiter Links, lost 9-1 to Atlanta Drive GC.

This is just the latest big injury for Woods and the second time he has torn his Achilles. In 2010, Woods revealed that he tore his right Achilles in 2008 and reinjured the tendon multiple times the following season.

Despite the injuries, Woods won six Tour events in 2009. In 2021, Woods nearly had his right leg amputated due to injuries sustained in a car wreck. Two years later, in April 2023, Woods had a subtalar fusion procedure to address post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle that was caused by injuries suffered in the car wreck.
