Tiger Woods Announces He Will Play Genesis Invitational After Yearlong Hiatus

Gearing up for his first competitive rounds of 2024, golf legend Tiger Woods has confirmed his participation in next week’s Genesis Invitational.

Announcing via social media, Woods expressed his enthusiasm for both playing in and hosting the tournament, which also supports his TGR Foundation.

“Excited to be a playing host next week,” shared Woods.

Since his withdrawal from the 2023 Masters, Woods has participated in only one solo event, where he secured an 18th-place finish out of 20 players in the Hero World Challenge held in December. He also teamed up with his son Charlie to clinch a tie for fifth-place in the PNC Championship that same month.
The Genesis Invitational holds a significant place in Woods’ recent history, as it was the event he was attending when he was involved in a car crash in February 2021, resulting in major leg injuries.

Following last year’s Masters, Woods underwent surgery on his right ankle to address post-traumatic arthritis stemming from injuries sustained in the crash.

Notably, this event marks Woods’ first appearance since his longstanding partnership with Nike concluded last month after a remarkable 27-year run.

Scheduled to take place from Feb. 15-18 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, the Genesis Invitational is one of the PGA Tour’s highlighted events for 2024, boasting a substantial $20 million purse and expected to draw a top-tier field of competitors.

Despite having played in 14 tournaments at Riviera without securing a win, Woods remains determined to make his mark at the course where his best finish came in 1999, landing him in second place at the Nissan Los Angeles Open (formerly known as such). Last year, he concluded the event tied for 45th place after shooting a 1-under 283.
