Liverpool captain and stalwart center-back Virgil van Dijk has given the latest update on his contract situation.

With his contract set to expire at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, there has been much speculation about whether or not he will extend his stay at the club. However, the Dutchman insists he is “not panicking” over the potential of a new deal, and says that you can expect news in the “coming weeks.”

His teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold also have their contracts expiring at the end of the season, with the latter widely rumored to have agreed a deal with Real Madrid. Unlike Alexander-Arnold, both Salah and van Dijk have made public comments suggesting that they are open to staying at the club, and are simply waiting for a suitable offer.

During a live Q&A this week, a fan asked van Dijk if there is any update regarding the situation, to which he replied:

“Well, I can’t say more than there will be news in the coming weeks — whether positive or not, I have no idea at this point. What I do know, and I’ve mentioned it many times, I am calm about what is happening. As I have also said many times before, I love the club. The club loves me. I love playing for Liverpool, and give everything for the boys each and every game. At this stage, I’m not panicking whatsoever, so we’ll see.”

van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2018 and has since built the reputation of being one of the greatest defenders to play the game. He has won every trophy available at the club, and is on the precipice of winning his second-ever Premier League trophy.
