The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) will cap off a busy summer schedule with a friendly against Canada on July 2, 2025, at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
Announced by U.S. Soccer on March 31, the match is part of the Allstate Continental Clásico — an annual showcase pitting the U.S. against top teams from the Americas. This clash follows a pair of friendlies against the Republic of Ireland on June 26 in Commerce City, Colorado, and June 29 in Cincinnati, Ohio, offering head coach Emma Hayes a critical three-game window to evaluate her squad ahead of a long break in international play.
This will mark the 67th all-time meeting between the pair, with the Americans holding a 53-4-9 record against their northern neighbors. In 2024, the teams met twice — once in the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup semifinal and again in the SheBelieves Cup final — both ending in 2-2 draws resolved by U.S. victories in penalty shootouts. Now, with Canada under new head coach Casey Stoney, an English compatriot of Hayes, the July matchup promises to be an intriguing tie.
Hayes sees the three-game stretch as a vital opportunity to refine her team’s identity. “Canada is a top team and this match is worthy of the Allstate Continental Clásico,” she said in a news release. “We’ll get a good chance to see our whole roster in training and hopefully game action before selecting a team to start in Washington, D.C.” She also emphasized the need for challenging opponents: “We need to play teams that will push us and create an environment where our players have to solve problems and play under pressure.”
This three-match window — starting with Ireland at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (where Hayes debuted as USWNT coach in 2024) and TQL Stadium — will be the team’s last gathering until late October. The USWNT faces Brazil in April and China in May-June.
Canada is ranked No. 7 globally in the March 2025 FIFA rankings, behind the No. 1 Americans.
For Hayes, the focus is on growth ahead of the World Cup in 2027. “We’re still early in our process of building towards World Cup qualifying for ’27,” she noted. “These summer matches at these great soccer venues will once again provide a platform for the players to show their abilities to excel at a high level.”
With Trinity Rodman back in the fold and emerging talents pushing for spots, the USWNT aims to leverage this rivalry to sharpen their competitive edge.
Tickets go on presale on April 1, 2025.
