Report: Liverpool Plotting Alexander Isak Swap Deal

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is rumored to be on the way out this summer, and one potential move is said to be a spectacular swap for him and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Nunez has struggled to fit into new manager Arne Slot’s setup at Liverpool, who seemingly prefers Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and Colombian Luis Diaz at the #9 position. This has led to a decline in playtime and as a result, a lack of confidence. The Uruguayan has only managed four goals in 20 league appearances this season, a considerable drop off from last year. In turn, this has apparently led the Liverpool hierarchy to consider their options.

Anything Swedish international Alexander Isak touches this season has turned to gold. He is currently the fourth-top scorer in the Premier League with 17 goals having played the fewest amount of games of the top four. This impressive form has turned heads at clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona.

With recent reports that Barcelona has financial issues, it leaves Arsenal and Liverpool to battle it out for Isak.

According to Football Insider, it appears Liverpool is the preferred destination for the Swede, and officials at Anfield are currently drawing up an audacious plan to acquire his services.

The report says that Liverpool is ready to offer striker Darwin Nunez a part of a swap deal for Alexander Isak. Newcastle are said to value their striker north of 100 million Euros, meaning Liverpool may have to add a cash payment to the swap deal, as Nunez initially signed for 85 million Euros and likely hasn’t increased his valuation.

The transfer would be much-welcome news for Liverpool, who haven’t been as active in recent transfer windows despite criticism from fans. Additionally, star players Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all have contracts expiring at the end of the season, and none of the trio have yet to agree to extensions.
