According to German Sky Sports reporter Patrick Berger, Borussia Dortmund may look to sell United States star Giovanni Reyna to Italian club AC Milan and is demanding around 15 million Euros.
It isn’t the first time the club has shown interest in the American, and it appears they have circled back yet again during this winter transfer window. The Rossoneri reportedly met with Dortmund representatives this week according to Italian outlet TuttoMercato, but formal discussions over a transfer have yet to begin.
Despite a seemingly never-ending train of injuries for Reyna, he remains in the Dortmund squad and is considered a big asset for the German club. He recently scored against Holstein Kiel in a surprise 4-2 loss, his second goal of the season.
Reyna returned in November 2024 from a groin injury that kept him on the sidelines for nearly two and a half months. Before that, he struggled to obtain any meaningful minutes for Dortmund as they loaned him to Premier League side Nottingham Forest for the latter half of last season.
He has been slowly nursed back to health as he aims to get a starting spot under Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin, but it has proven difficult.
For Reyna, it may be the perfect moment to transfer to a club that can guarantee him more minutes — especially in light of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year. New USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettnio has been abundantly clear during his unveiling press conference, “We need to believe in big things. We need to believe that we can not win just one game — but the World Cup.” To achieve this goal, Poch will surely look to favor players who are consistently playing at a high level.
A move to the San Siro could be further buoyed by the fact that his compatriots, Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah, are also at AC Milan and are currently flourishing. They recently won the 2024 Supercoppa Italiana trophy, but are struggling in the domestic league sitting in 7th.
