On Friday, AC Milan defeated rivals Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana 2-1 at the Al-Awwal Park in Saudi Arabia. They will go on to face Inter Milan in the Final in a few days, who defeated Atalanta the day prior.
AC Milan’s attack was spearheaded by Christian Pulisic, who made their return from injury in a big way by securing the player of the match award.
Juventus struck first in the first half, carrying a 1-0 lead for much of the game until late in the second half when Pulisic won a penalty after Manuel Locatelli fouled him inside the box. The American converted the penalty to equalize 1-1, and just a few minutes later AC Milan received a stroke of luck after fellow American Yunus Musah had a cross that deflected into the back of the net, securing the 2-1 win for AC Milan.
It was Pulisic’s first game back after nearly a month when he suffered a calf injury that kept him sidelined since early December. He continues his hot run of form for the season, now recording nine goals and five assists across all competitions for the Rossoneri.
It marks the first official win under Sérgio Conceição, the new coach for AC Milan after the club sacked Paulo Fonseca before the new year. The Portuguese man previously managed FC Porto, where he won the Portuguese league three times.
The Supercoppa Final against rivals Inter Milan is scheduled for the 6th, and AC Milan have a chance to win their first trophy under the new manager. AC Milan’s next game league game is against Cagliari next weekend, as they hope to continue climbing up the table from 8th after an inconsistent start to the season.
