Paris Saint-Germain will be returning to the Champions League final.
They defeated English club Arsenal 2-1 on the night (3-1 aggregate) at the Parc des Princes in Paris, after they defeated them at the Emriates Stadium in London 1-0 last week.
It was Arsenal who secured the early momentum in the game, who troubled PSG via set-pieces and long throw-ins. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was called into action early by making incredible saves within the first 10 minutes. Despite the early pressure, it was PSG who struck first. In the 28th minute, Fabian Ruiz collected the ball outside the box and hit a left-foot volley passed David Raya.
In the second half, PSG had a penalty saved by Raya after a VAR review determined Arsenal fullback Myles Lewis-Skelly had handballed inside the box. Just a few minutes later, PSG made amends after Hakimi made it 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate) to the Parisians after Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was too pedestrian in clearing the ball, allowing Hakimi to capitalize. Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka pulled back the deficit after a few fortunate deflections fell into his path, allowing him to slot past Donnarumma to make it 2-1. But it was too little, too late for the Gunners.
For the second time in their history, the Parisians will be going to the Champions League final (runners-up in 19/20) and will hope to be crowned winners for the first time. They will play against an Inter Milan side who are in their second final in the last three years. Inter have won the Champions League three times in their history, with the last win coming in 2010.
The final will be played on May 31st at the Allianz Arena in Germany.
