The Egyptian King’s reign at Anfield will continue.

On Friday, Liverpool announced that their star winger has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension. While details such as the number of years were kept under wraps, well-sourced journalist Paul Joyce has suggested that it is a 2-year extension.

Salah seems to be getting better with age and is currently having a career year. The 32-year-old leads the Premier League goal-scoring charts this season with 27 (Haaland is in 2nd with 21) and the most assists with 17. His performances have put him amongst the favorites for the Ballon d’Or award this year, along with the likes of FC Barcelona’s Raphinha.

Even more importantly, the club looks set to confirm the extension of club captain Virgil van Dijk. While Joyce mentioned that van Dijk’s extension would not be announced today, the club appears to be set to make the confirmation public in the coming week.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, looks set to agree to a free agent deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid (if reports are to be believed).

With Salah staying, the club will be hoping that he continues scoring and assisting in bucketloads — which would then enable Liverpool to remain in contention for trophies for years to come. The identity of the club remains intact, and it would have been a jarring shift for the team to lose their longstay manager and three most important players in the space of two years.

With Salah and van Dijk staying, it means that the club has less transfer business to do this summer. Still, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Andrew Robertson all have uncertain futures at the club. Liverpool will undoubtedly have major spending to conduct this offseason, and new coach Arne Slot will have the opportunity to re-build the squad as a new-look Liverpool in a post-Jurgen Klopp era.
