Manchester City Agree to Sign Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Premier League team Manchester City has agreed to verbal terms with German club Eintracht Frankfurt for forward Omar Marmoush.

The 25-year-old Egyptian joined Frankfurt in 2023 and has had a breakout year for Eintracht Frankfurt, finishing the first half of the season as the second top scorer in the German Bundesliga with 13 goals in 15 appearances. The only player to contribute more goals and assists in Europe is Mohamed Salah, his compatriot at Liverpool.

While the financial details are currently undisclosed, the publication Foot Mercato reported that the transfer fee could be up to 80 million Euros. Last summer, City only signed Savinho for 25 million Euros and Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer, meaning the club had cash on the sidelines ready to spend.

The English giants are set to continue splashing the cash this window, after also agreeing to deals for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis earlier this month.

Manchester City found themselves in a mini-rebuilding period after frailties in their squad were exposed with the absence of Ballon d’Or winner Rodri and other players beginning to show their age such as Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish. They were also finding themselves short of offensive reinforcements after Julian Alvarez departed to Atletico Madrid in the summer, and Erling Halaand starting the majority of their matches across all competitions.

City are struggling for form this season, sitting in 6th place in the Premier League and 22nd in the Champions League table.

Their next match in the Premier League is against Ipswich Town this Sunday.
