The latest FIFA World Rankings were released on Thursday.

For the most part, there weren’t any massive surprises. The top sides in the world you’d expect to be within the top-10 were there for the most part.

Having said that, some may question the placement of the United States given its disastrous showing in the recent Nations League tournament on home soil.

The United States were ranked as the No. 16 team in the world — one spot ahead of Mexico. There are likely millions of El Tri supporters questioning that placement, given what Mexico recently did in the same tournament.

Argentina was ranked as the No. 1 team in the world — followed (in order) by Spain, France, England, and Brazil. Rounding out the top-10 sequentially includes Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany.

Perhaps the most interesting line features teams 11-15. Croatia has long been underrated within European circles given the talent coming from the country, as well as its performances in big tournaments. Morocco (12th) is the highest-ranked team from Africa. The squad is loaded with high-level performers throughout the major leagues in Europe. Despite aging out of its golden generation, Uruguay still finds itself as the No. 13 team closely followed by Colombia at No. 14.

Lastly, Japan is ranked No. 15. The highest-ranked nation from Asia, there’s real buzz this could be a darkhorse side to make some considerable noise next summer.

Iran (18), Senegal (19), and Switzerland (20) round out the pecking order behind the U.S. and Mexico, respectively.

From there, the final five teams within the top-25 include Denmark, Austria, South Korea, Ecuador, and Ukraine.
