Christian Pulisic Ruled Out for Remainder of 2024

United States and AC Milan star Christian Pulisic has faced a fresh injury setback as he has been ruled out for the remainder of 2024 following a calf injury, which was sustained during AC Milan’s 2-1 Serie A loss against league leaders Atalanta.

The injury has been confirmed as a low-grade tear in his right calf, which was incurred in the 31st minute when Atalanta player Mario Pasalic tackled Pulisic. Although he tried to continue playing, he signaled for a substitution four minutes later. The MRI scan later revealed the tear, confirming that he will miss upwards of four matches for the Rossoneri.

The injury has pumped the breaks on a stellar season so far for the American, scoring 8 goals and 6 assists in all competitions, as well as having 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 5 games for the USMNT. He played a pivotal role in the USA’s Nationals League quarter-final against Jamaica, securing their spot in the semifinals against Panama in 2025. It is undoubtedly a big blow for AC Milan, as Pulisic has the most goals and assists for the club in the Serie A this season.

AC Milan are currently seventh in the Serie A table and are fighting to qualify for European places (6th and above). Despite their loss to Atalanta, they have been on a good run of form of late, going unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions, including a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Manager Paul Fonseca was optimistic following news of the injury, saying in his post-match press conference that “Pulisic had been having a great game, but I’m confident in the depth of this team.” Despite the setback, Milan has set a return date for Pulisic to be around January 3rd, when he could be fit in time to face fellow Americans Wes McKennie and Tim Weah in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Juventus.
