Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou could be set to leave at the end of the season, according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law.

The London-based club has had a disappointing domestic season, currently sitting in 16th in the table. With five games left to play, it would make for their worst Premier League finish since the 1996/97 season.

The low finish is mostly thanks to an unprecedented injury crisis, where at one point, more than half of their first-team squad were experiencing a range of long-term injuries. Last Monday, they lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest, marking their 18th league defeat of the season and just one shy of the club record.

Despite the poor season, Tottenham are in the Europa League semifinal, where they will play against Norwegian side FK Bodø/Glimt. If they go on to win the competition, they will qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. It would also mark the first major trophy for the club since 2008, when they won the League Cup Final against Chelsea.

According to Law, the Europa League result could make or break his career at Spurs. Should Spurs fail to win the competition, it would result in the Australian departing the club, either through sacking or mutual consent. It remains to be seen whether or not he would remain at his post should they go on to win.

The source also states that should he leave, top candidates to replace him are Andoni Iraola at FC Bournemouth and Marco Silva at Fulham. Mauricio Pochettino, who guided Tottenham to a Champions League Final in 2019, has stated in interviews recently that he would be interested in returning to Spurs at some point in the future. However, the Argentine only just signed on to be the coach of USA National Team. As such, it may be too soon to entertain the thought of a return.
