Alphonso Davies to Stay at Bayern Munich with New Contract

Alphonso Davies is set to stay at Bayern Munich.

The Canadian star will put an end to the longstanding rumors of a Real Madrid transfer by signing a new contract at Bayern Munich, according to The Athletic.

It was one of the worst-kept secrets in football that Los Blancos were interested in signing the electric fullback. With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2025 season, Davies would have been available on a free transfer.

Real Madrid scouted the 24-year-old Candian to replace current left-back Ferland Mendy. Manager Carlo Ancelotti mentioned recently that while they are happy with Mendy, the Frenchman’s attacking output left more to be desired.

It would make sense then that Real Madrid would see a major opportunity with Davies. He holds a progressive pass rate of 89.6% and has 47 successful dribbles so far this season, the most of any fullback in the top 5 leagues. He also offers an explosive pace that would fit almost perfectly alongside the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe in the Real Madrid team.

However, it now appears the Spanish giants are throwing in the towel on Davies.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg took to the X platform to reiterate The Athletic’s report: “FC Bayern now believe they are in the final stages of securing Alphonso Davies’ contract extension! There are also discussions about a deal extending until 2030. This is not yet decided, but it is possible,” he posted.

If the new Bayern Munich contract comes to fruition, he is set to agree to a five-year, €15m/year deal that will come with signing-on fees and bonuses.

He joined the German club from Canadian MLS team Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the game.

Bayern Munich has experienced a resurgence this season after finishing a disappointing 3rd last year. New manager Vincent Kompany appears to be getting the best out of the Canadian star this season and is heavily utilized in their tactical setup.
