Travis Kelce has shared the biggest factor behind his decision to return for the 2025 season.

The 10-time Pro Bowler was just shy of accomplishing the ‘three-peat’ at Super Bowl LIX, losing to the Philidelphia Eagles 40-22. It would have been the first time in NFL history that such a feat would have occurred. After the game, Kelce took the time to mull over his options regarding returning for the 2025 season before confirming his return.

Speaking with his brother Jason on the New Heights podcast, Travis revealed the biggest factor behind his decision to return: the Super Bowl loss.

It was probably the biggest factor. I mean, it would have been a pretty cool way to go out. I just think I would still have this love for the game, I think I would have thought about it more if we would’ve won.

Last year was Travis’s worst statistically since his rookie year. He recorded the fewest receiving yards and touchdowns in the regular season, and only caught one touchdown in the entire postseason — his lowest in seven years.

It wasn’t my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in the past. The ending of that game, I feel like I owe the guys that I come into that building with a whole lot more effort. The more that I see clips or watch the film and put myself back into those moments… I’m just like what the f***?”

After he revealed he would return for another season via text to Pat McAfee, he kept his cards close to his chest when it comes to returning for the upcoming year:

I feel like there’s a responsibility in me to play out the contract that I signed, to give the Chiefs organization everything I got. And that’s what I’m gonna do. I can’t say whether or not this is going to be my last year because I still love a lot of what I do for the city of Kansas City.

Partially thanks to his relationship with star Taylor Swift, Kelce’s name-recognition has skyrocketed, and he has begun acting in the offseason in titles like Happy Gilmore 2 and hosting the game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? To that end, it would make sense for Kelce to continue his Chiefs career while he is at the height of his popularity.
