The New York Giants missed out on Matthew Stafford, and will now be shifting their efforts to acquiring a different veteran QB. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Giants have expressed interest in adding Aaron Rodgers to their QB room. The news came shortly after the Los Angeles Rams announced they came to an agreement with Stafford on a new deal. With Stafford off the board, the Giants now have the four-time league MVP in their sights.

Rodgers, coming off a tumultuous season with the Jets, is looking for a bounce-back. There were concerns about how he’d play coming off an Achilles tear. Overall, Rodgers posted a decent season from a statistical standpoint (28 TDs, 11 INTs), but the Jets finished the season 5-12 and the offense struggled. Rodgers’ immobility was a major reason why the passing attack looked so bogged down.

At least, that’s what the Giants are probably thinking. They hold the No. 3 pick in April’s draft but don’t seem overly enthused with bringing in a rookie hurler. The decision-makers in New York — namely, HC Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen — understand that their jobs are likely on the line. Barring a Jayden Daniels-like impact from a first-year QB, management would likely move on from Daboll and Schoen after the 2025 season.

There’s a small glimmer of hope if Rodgers is brought in. His play with the Jets was uneasy, but perhaps a stronger offensive line and Daboll’s savvy play-calling can revert Rodgers to elite status. Rodgers was named MVP in ’20 and ’21 and finished 8th in passing yards and 7th in passing TDs last season.

If it is able to acquire Rodgers without giving up any draft capital, New York’s offense could be revamped in a hurry. Rodgers would join an offense that includes future star WR Malik Nabers and stud RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. The Giants also have one of the best left tackles in football, Andrew Thomas, and can add even more with the No. 3 pick. With a QB in tow, it would allow the Giants to select someone like WR/CB Travis Hunter who would provide a boost on both sides of the field.

The Giants are desperate to get back into contention. It’s no surprise that they aggressively pursued Stafford when he was made available. Rodgers isn’t the same player he once was, but he’s a massive upgrade over Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, or Tommy DeVito. More clarity on New York’s QB situation will likely be made available in the coming days.
