According to insider reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills are finalizing a deal to transfer Stefon Diggs, their four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, to the Houston Texans. In return, the Bills are set to gain compensation in the form of draft picks. Specifically, they will obtain a 2025 second-round pick, originally from the Minnesota Vikings, as part of the agreement.
In addition to this pick, the Bills are also giving up a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick. It’s worth noting that the Texans received this particular pick from the Vikings in a prior trade, wherein they relinquished their 2024 first-round pick to the Texans just last month.
Just one day following Stefon Diggs’ retort to a social media user questioning his importance to Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s accomplishments with a simple “You sure?”, this trade emerges. For the Texans, it marks another strategic maneuver aimed at immediate success — as they bolster their roster around quarterback C.J. Stroud with seasoned talent during this offseason spree.
Before trading for Diggs, Houston acquired running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals in March — and subsequently signed the veteran to a three-year/$27 million extension. Additionally, the AFC contenders signed star pass-rusher Danielle Hunter to a two-year, $49 million contract.
Houston is well-positioned to win the AFC South for the second year in a row in 2024 and potentially make a deep run in the postseason.
