In exchange, the Steelers received a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection. Dallas desperately was searching for a deep threat option to take the proverbial top off an opposing defense. Unable to satisfy this need in the draft, Pickens was the player they honed in on. Last year, he caught 59 passes for 900 yards and three TDs. There were moments where the 6’3″ receiver looked dominant…and others where he was a detriment to his team.
Pickens clearly wore out his welcome with Mike Tomlin. Talent was never an issue with him. Rather, a lack of consistency and discipline apparently plagued Pickens on and off the field. The Cowboys are taking a chance here with low-risk given that he’s got only one year left on his current deal.
His addition should help Lamb out considerably. Operating in the slot, Lamb is one of the most dynamic receivers in the game. Pickens’ ability to go vertically should in theory open up space underneath for the receiver to exploit.
As for Pittsburgh, it did well to nab two picks in this deal — especially one in the third round.
