Chiefs Ramp Up For Playoff Push by Acquiring Josh Uche

When looking at the best franchises in any professional sport, there always seems to be a desire to improve no matter the circumstances. These teams best want to maximize their respective windows by going out and acquiring talent to aid the present rosters.

Staying with that theme, the Kansas City Chiefs made a move Monday morning with the hopes of fortifying a somewhat average pass rush. Josh Uche was acquired from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Uche, a former second-round pick from Michigan in 2020, had seemingly been on the outs with the new regime in New England. He didn’t play last week in the win over the Jets despite not having an injury.

Landing him for a sixth-round pick was a smart move by Kansas City. Uche is only 26 years of age and does have a track record of being an effective edge rusher. He has accrued 20.5 sacks in his career (2.0 sacks this season) and does have some considerable juice in terms of first-step quickness.

This is a low-risk/high-reward move for the Chiefs. If Uche doesn’t work it’s it’s no big deal. He’s an unrestricted free agent after this year concludes. On the other hand, if he does become a difference-maker up front, the Chiefs only relinquished a low-round draft pick to get him. On the year, Kansas City currently ranks 20th in the NFL in sacks per game (2.1).
