We’ve seen the son of one current NBA star make his professional debut this year. Could we soon be seeing this scenario occur once more?
Kiyan Anthony, the son of former NBA great Carmelo Anthony, is slated to make his college decision this upcoming week. The 2025 prospect is a 6’5″ guard ranked No. 34 nationally in his class by 247Sports. Anthony’s dad recently made an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Naturally, his recruitment was brought up by the late-night talk host. Here’s what Carmelo had to say:
“I’m a little nervous. It’s down to two. It’s down to Syracuse and USC. There’s a fine line I couldn’t cross due to my ties…I have to let him do his thing, but it’s been a fun process.”
The younger Anthony has steadily been improving over the last few years. We’ve seen him working tirelessly with his father in clips. Now sprouting to a legit 6’5″ with a silky jumper and a tight handle, there’s real reason to think he can develop into a legit NBA player on his own merit.
Representing his father’s alma mater may present some challenges. Syracuse is in a bit of a rebuild. Not only that, but Kiyan will have some real pressure to succeed given his dad was one of the more prolific one-and-done players of the past 25 years. At the very least, Kiyan should be able to come in and play right away.
As for USC, he surely has familiarity with LA given Carmelo’s time with the Lakers. Eric Musselman is rooted in the NBA, and runs a guard-friendly scheme that would fit Kiyan well.
As it stands, Kiyan will publicly make his announcement on his father’s podcast this upcoming week.
