Top Transfers to Watch in College Football’s 2024 Portal

The 2024-25 College Football regular season ended this past weekend. Much of the attention focused on the College Football Playoff and ultimately the conference championship matchups this upcoming weekend.

At the same time, the transfer portal was already percolating at a fever pitch. More than a handful of names have already entered the portal in search of their next destinations.

While many are looking for better opportunities at play time, some of the more notable athletes are in search of a payday. Let’s look at a few of the bigger-name athletes moving on to other schools.

QB Miller Moss (USC)

Depending on who you talk to, Moss was essentially the scapegoat behind USC’s disappointing yet unsurprising 6-6 finish. Lincoln Riley failed to recruit enough talent on both lines for this team to be successful — yet it was Moss who somehow was the culprit behind the Trojans’ being non-competitive versus any decent team.

Moss was benched after the Washington game. On the year, the 6’1″ gunslinger threw 18 TDs to only nine INTs for 2,555 yards in nine games. He also completed passes at a 64.4-percent clip.

With UCLA presumably losing Ethan Garbers to graduation, Moss could enter a situation where he gets to stay home and play for an improving program while also getting a chance to beat his former team.

WR KC Concepcion (NC State)

The 247Sports transfer portal rankings have Concepcion as the No. 2 available player in the portal (behind only Alabama DL Jehiem Oatis).

Concepcion burst onto the scene as a freshman. He was recognized last year as the ACC’s Rookie of the Year. He also was a Freshman All-American after accruing nearly 1,2000 all-purpose yards. He caught 71 passes for 839 yards (10 TDs) and also rushed for 320 yards on 41 carries (7.8 YPC average).

His numbers as a sophomore were down across the board (53 catches for 460 yards, six touchdown receptions, 19 carries for 36 yards, two rushing TDs). Having said that, we’ve seen Concepcion’s explosiveness in spurts — and he should have no shortage of interest from programs nationally. We’d guess that multiple SEC programs would love to add the Charlotte native.

WR Micah Hudson (Texas Tech)

A true freshman this past year, Hudson has decided to leave Lubbock for greener pastures.

Hudson had a very quiet year in 2024. He caught only eight passes for 123 yards. Based on those numbers, most would be surprised to see him ranked as the No. 3 overall transfer in 247Sports rankings.

The missing context here stems from his prep background. Hudson was a 5-star recruit last year — and a top-25 player nationally. One of the best players in the state of Texas as a high school senior, he surprised many by signing with Texas Tech over the likes of Texas A&M, Alabama, Colorado, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, and Oregon.

He was a highly dynamic athlete that you could line up anywhere across the field whether inside as a slot guy, or on the perimeter. In a more stable situation with a better quarterback and teammates around him, you likely can see Hudson’s talents fully unleashed. Early rumors have Colorado, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, and Tennessee sniffing around.

DB Julian Humphrey (Georgia)

Humphrey is rated as the No. 6 overall transfer by 247Sports.

For those programs searching for an instant impact defensive back, Humphrey is your guy. It was a bit surprising to see Humphrey enter the portal at this time considering he started 10 games this past year for Georgia (not to mention the fact the Bulldogs are playing in the SEC title game this weekend versus Texas).

He didn’t play in the regular season finale versus Georgia Tech — signaling perhaps that the team knew of his intentions before kickoff. Humphrey’s departure likely was due to losing his starting spot to Daniel Harris a few weeks ago.

The redshirt sophomore out of Texas should have a healthy market of programs pursuing him given his experience at an elite program.
