After the Cam Ward experiment turned out (relatively) well for Miami, the Hurricanes decided to tip its toe back into the transfer portal waters for yet another one-year mercenary.
This time, the player in question comes from one of the biggest programs in the country. As has been reported via numerous outlets, former Georgia QB Carson Beck has committed to play for Mario Cristobal’s team in 2025.
Beck had somewhat of an up-and-down year by his standards. In his career, he’s boasted a 24-3 record as a starter. Heading into this year, Beck was projected by some as a first-round pick.
An injury to his UCL ligament hindered his ability to push the ball downfield with consistency. Beck is known for having a whip of a right arm, and arguably the strongest arm in this projected class. He threw for 28 TDs and 3,485 yards in 13 games for the Bulldogs. The elbow injury forced Beck to miss Georgia’s playoff loss to Notre Dame.
On the flip side, he threw double the amount of interceptions this year (12) than he did in 2023 (6). His completion percentage also dropped from 72.4 percent to 64.7 percent.
There was talk of Beck entering the 2025 NFL Draft even coming off an injury and somewhat shaky season. However, Miami is giving him the opportunity to reestablish his value while also getting healthy. At the very least, the Hurricanes are bringing in a guy with a proven track record — and one who should be motivated to perform at a high level.
