Last year, ESPN famously — or infamously — made a ton of budget cuts. Inexplicably, Lowe saw his name on the chopping block and was left unemployed. It rattled the sportswriter community primarily because he is atop the field of discussing professional basketball at a Mensa level.
Everything changed this past Sunday — as the rumored revival between Lowe and Grantland creator Bill Simmons became a reality. On Simmons’ Sunday night podcast, he announced that Lowe would be joining The Ringer/Spotify as a primary basketball personality. The plan is to utilize him in numerous ways — and likely for Lowe in a way which enables him to stay on the East Coast with his family.
Lowe’s arrival at The Ringer continues to cement a general trend where hard-hitting journalism appears more so within the podcast space, whereas television analysis is rooted in short clips, shock statements, and truncated discussions.
