Victor Wembanyama’s season is over.

Early Thursday, the San Antonio Spurs announced that Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Victor Wembanyama has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The condition was discovered when Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco. Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The team will provide updates as appropriate.

The diagnosis marks a disappointing end to Wembanyama’s second season. Last year’s Rookie of the Year, Wembanyama was the heavy favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year through this year’s All-Star break. Through 46 games, Wembanyama averaged 24.3 PPG, 11.0 RPG, and a league-high 3.8 blocks per game.

At 23-29, the Spurs currently sit in 12th place in the Western Conference — 3.5 games behind Golden State for the 10-seed, the final spot in the play-in tournament.
