According to a report from TMZ, longtime San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was seen being stretchered out of a local restaurant Tuesday evening.

TMZ notes that Popovich allegedly fainted in the restaurant — prompting emergency services to be called. The 76-year-old reportedly is fine and now back home.

Popovich signed a 5-year extension with the Spurs back in 2023. For how lauded and respected he is throughout the organization, he essentially will be involved with San Antonio for as long as he’d like to be.

However in November 2024, Popovich decided to take an unexpected leave of absence. The cause was reported to be the aftermath of a mild stroke the head coach suffered. He decided to sit out the rest of this current season with the hopes to one day be back on the sidelines. The decision to miss the rest of the season occurred this past February.

There’s no word on when/if Popovich will be back in some capacity with the franchise. He first came to the Spurs as an assistant coach from 1988-92. In 1996, he took over as the team’s head coach. During the nearly 30-year run, San Antonio has won five NBA Championships. Popovich himself has been named Coach of the Year on three separate occasions.

Aside from coaching a handful of iconic players in Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and Kawhi Leonard, Popovich also led the United States to a gold medal in basketball during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
