This is the game many NBA fans have been waiting for.

Luka Doncic finally makes his return back to Dallas — the home he enjoyed for years before being jettisoned out-of-the-blue to LA in what could be the most shocking NBA trade in the history of the league.

The fan base in Dallas has made no secret that they are/were/continue to be in utter disgust over what went down. Protests occurred outside of the stadium in the aftermath of the deal, and they continued inside of American Airlines Arena whenever the ownership group walked onto the court and to their seats.

Tonight’s game is significant for both teams — though for the Lakers it’s about trying to lock up the No. 3 seed in the crowded Western Conference. A win tonight would go a long way towards doing that. Dallas is for all intents and purposes going to finish as a play-in team. Jason Kidd’s team is still working out some kinks with the newfound frontcourt rotation featuring Anthony Davis, PJ Washington, and Dereck Lively.

However, it’s all about Doncic. Arguably among the most competitive and intense performers in the sport, there’s clearly some real vitriol he has against the Mavericks front office and by proxy the ownership group.

Dallas might be trying to smooth things over, as it’s giving every fan a t-shirt with the inscription “hvala za vse” (“thank you so much” in Slovenian).

Will this somewhat strange gesture get under Doncic’s skin even further?

Tune in at 4:30 p.m. PT to find out.
