Basketball superstar Kevin Durant has accomplished it all: two back-to-back NBA Championships, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 15x NBA All-Star, 4x Olympic Gold Medalist, and Team USA’s all-time leading scorer.
While interviewing for the new Netflix documentary Court of Gold, which tells the story of the USA Men’s Basketball journey in Paris on the way to winning the gold medal, KD got emotional while recalling his experience there.
“I come from a neighborhood where people don’t even talk to each other,” said Durant. “The game saved my life. It brought me and my family from a lot of bull****, so I’m just grateful for it, for real.”
“I looked at the crowd — there’s 27,000 people from all walks of life, all different countries — all coming together for basketball. It’s incredible to see that. As much as I can bring us together that way, that’s what I try to do.”
“So much hate in the world, too. People get to start laughing and joking for the game of ball. It’s cool to me, so it gets me emotional, dawg.”
At the Olympics, Durant became the first-ever player to win four Olympic gold medals. He also broke Lisa Leslie’s record of becoming Team USA’s all-time leading scorer with 518 points.
When asked if he would return to the Olympics in LA 2028, he simply responded “We’ll see”.
