Dan Hurley Set To Meet with Lakers Regarding Head Coaching Vacancy

After weeks of reports stating that JJ Redick was likely to become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, new reports on Thursday shocked the basketball world. Following reports that the Lakers are prioritizing hiring UConn coach Dan Hurley, the two-time NCAA champion coach is said to be meeting with Lakers brass on Friday.

According to sources, Hurley is set to meet with vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss. Additionally, sources indicate that the Lakers and Hurley are discussing the parameters of a potential deal — including Hurley’s salary and the length of the deal.

While Hurley has not made a decision as of Friday morning, the leading candidate is said to have informed UConn administration and his players at UConn of the possibility of him joining the Lakers.

Hurley has led the UConn Huskies to back-to-back National Championships. If he opts to join Los Angeles, he would forego the opportunity to become the first coach to lead his team to three-straight NCAA titles since John Wooden accomplished the feat with UCLA.

Overall, Hurley is 141-58 (.709) in six seasons at UConn. Before leading the Huskies to two titles, Hurley coached at Wagner and Rhode Island — he is 292–163 overall.
