Carmelo Anthony has been notified that he’s earned induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
The ten-time All-Star will be joining the Hall of Fame Class of 2025, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Anthony played in the NBA for nineteen seasons and played his final game in 2022. This was the first year he was eligible for induction, making him a first-ballot selection.
Following a stellar high school career, Anthony attended Syracuse University. As a freshman, Anthony led Syracuse to its only NCAA title in the program’s history. It ended up being his lone collegiate season as Anthony declared for the NBA Draft shortly after the title win.
A lethal three-level scorer, Anthony used his size and skill to dominate defenses. Players from Anthony’s era routinely cite the former Knick as one of the toughest matchups defensively. He could post up smaller defenders and score at will near the basket. Anthony would lure bigger players out to the perimeter where he could effortlessly launch threes with great accuracy.
During the peak of his career, Anthony became a staple on the US Men’s Olympic Basketball Team. After his rookie season in the NBA, Anthony joined the team for the 2004 Athens games where they won the bronze medal. He would eventually become a three-time gold medalist as a key piece during the 2008, 2012, and 2016 games.
Anthony ranks 12th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 28,289 career points. He sits behind Shaquille O’Neal and is directly in front of active player James Harden. In 2022, Anthony was selected to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
