Day 1 of the NBA Draft is in the books and what a wild day it was. There was almost zero clarity heading into the draft on where the Atlanta Hawks were headed with their No. 1 selection, but they ultimately decided on French wing Zaccharie Risacher. The Wizards made it two French imports in a row when they selected center Alex Sarr with the No. 2 pick. Kentucky sharpshooter Reed Sheppard was made the third overall pick by the Houston Rockets. We saw a flurry of trades, and even some surprising selections throughout the day. Now, teams are gearing up for thirty more picks on Day 2. Who is still available and who will get their name called Thursday? We got you covered, as we take a quick glance at the top 5 players still on the board heading into Round 2 of the NBA Draft.
1. G/F Johnny Furphy (Kansas)
Kansas’ freshman wing was rumored to be shooting up boards late in the process. It was a bit surprising he ended up falling out of the first round entirely given his athletic makeup and shooting ability. Furphy is a 6-foot-8 sharpshooter who got better throughout his lone collegiate season. With such a massive emphasis on bigger players who can knockdown outside shots, Furphy likely won’t have to wait long until his name is called on Day 2.
2. F/C Kyle Filipowski (Duke)
Filipowski has the pedigree and skillset of a first rounder. It’s not totally clear why he slipped outside of the top-30. Though, some may have put an emphasis on Filipowski ending his sophomore season poorly at Duke. His outside shot was inconsistent and he showed a proclivity for turning the ball over. Still, we’re talking about a 6-foot-11 forward who can space the floor, get to the foul line, and block shots. And, he’s still just 20 years old. Some team will be getting a steal by drafting Filipowski in the second round.
3. G Tyler Kolek (Marquette)
Kolek’s vision and passing ability wasn’t enough to persuade a team into drafting him in the first round. As a result, we could see a savvy team grab a solid floor general on Day 2. Of course, every player dreams of being drafted as early as possible. However, landing in a strong situation if often more important for a majority of players. Kolek going to a team that will maximize his strengths and cover up his weaknesses as a player becomes more likely now that he’s slipped a bit. We’d love to see him land on a team that already has a veteran backcourt established…such as the Milwaukee Bucks who hold the third selection in Round 2.
4. F Bobi Klintman (Sweden)
Bobi Klintman fits the mold of a prototypical wing prospect. He’s extremely mobile for his size and is capable of knocking down perimeter shots. Additionally, he shined on the professional stage while playing in the NBL in Australia. Klintman was getting reps against pros and former NBA players on a nightly basis. He’ll have to get much stronger and better at finishing in the lane, but a team that is patient with Klintman could be getting great value in Round 2.
5. C Adem Bona (UCLA)
UCLA big man Adem Bona is the best athlete still on the board. He’s listed at just 6-foot-8 but boasts a massive 7-foot-4 wingspan and plays with a relentless motor. He averaged nearly two blocks per game over two years at UCLA. As of now, his offense almost entirely consists of catching lobs and put backs. But, there aren’t many better defensive prospects in the entire pool. He isn’t too far behind Virginia’s Ryan Dunn — who was selected 28th overall and headed to Phoenix — in that respect.
