Arguably the most famous man from the country of Ireland has found himself in some very hot water.
Appearing in the High Court in the country’s capital city of Dublin, UFC star Conor McGregor was reportedly found liable for sexual assault stemming from an alleged incident in December of 2018.
A jury of 12 people deliberated on the case and came to a verdict Friday in Dublin. As a result of the decision, the woman in question — Nikita Hand — will receive approximately 250,000 Euros.
Hand is said to have grown up in the same general area as McGregor — a suburb of Dublin called Crumlin. The alleged event took place at a hotel. Hand alleges that McGregor forced himself onto her without consent. She then reportedly said that McGregor put her in a UFC-style chokehold.
While McGregor admitted to having sexual relations with Hand, his legal team was steadfast in reportedly saying that Hand was a gold digger. McGregor himself took to X and had the following to say:
I will be appealing today’s decision. The judge’s instruction and the modest award given was for assault, not for aggravated or exemplary damages. I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you to all my support worldwide ❤️🙏
McGregor has not fought professionally since July 21, 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He was slated to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 this past June. However, the fight was canceled due to McGregor suffering from a broken toe.
