His character morphed over time, turning heel and becoming an embodiment of sleaziness and deceit. In many ways, he was paying homage to the late Eddie Guerrero — someone his family was very close with.
Being a member of the Judgement Day stable, Mysterio could come on stage with a microphone only to be drowned out by a chorus of the loudest boos you’d hear. This would happen in literally every arena across the world.
Slowly but surely, he started to gain favor with the fan base. You could see a bit of a change as he suddenly became a plucky underdog in the months leading up to this year’s WrestleMania.
Balor was in shock, and the crowd was cheering immensely loud for the man they once booed. The turn from heel to baby face came — and it happened to come in an organic way. Mysterio will surely have to deal with the repercussions of turning on Balor. Having said that, this storyline has become far more interesting, and Mysterio — who once worked within the company as an 8-year-old — is now getting to live out a dream millions would desperately seek.
