Opening Day – Thursday
Milwaukee Brewers @ New York Yankees (3:00 EST, ESPN)
Baltimore Orioles @ Toronto Blue Jays (3:07 EST)
Philadelphia Phillies @ Washington Nationals (4:05 EST)
Boston Red Sox @ Texas Rangers (4:05 EST)
The most intriguing early game on Opening Day pits two popular picks to represent the American League in the World Series. The host Texas Rangers won the AL Pennant in 2023 but finished below .500 last season as they dealt with numerous injuries and inconsistent play. Boston finished 2024 with an 81-81 record and improved in the offseason by adding former Astro Alex Bregman and Opening Day starter Garrett Crochet. Crochet faces an immediate test against a Texas lineup that will want to make a strong impression following last year’s letdown.
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Miami Marlins (4:10 EST)
San Francisco Giants @ Cincinnati Reds (4:10 EST)
Los Angeles Angels @ Chicago White Sox (4:10 EST)
Yusei Kikuchi vs. Sean Burke
Cleveland Guardians @ Kansas City Royals (4:10 EST)
New York Mets @ Houston Astros (4:10 EST)
Juan Soto taking the field as a New York Met for the first time is the headline in this matchup. However, this game is interesting for several reasons. The Mets will hand the ball to Clay Holmes — also a former Yankee — who will be making his first start since 2018. Across the diamond, Houston will look rather different. Club legend Alex Bregman is now with the Red Sox and star outfielder Kyle Tucker is in Chicago. Additionally, Jose Altuve is no longer at second base. Following a noticeable decline in the infield, Houston moved the former MVP to left field in the offseason.
Atlanta Braves @ San Diego Padres (4:10 EST)
Minnesota Twins @ St. Louis Cardinals (4:15 EST)
Detroit Tigers @ Los Angeles Dodgers (7:00 EST, ESPN)
The defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers will host the Detroit Tigers in front of a national audience on Opening Day. One of last year’s best stories, the Tigers are looking to build upon their first trip to the postseason since 2014. Led by Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, Detroit upset the Houston Astros in the ALWC before falling to the rival Cleveland Guardians. Now, Skubal will start the year in a pitcher’s duel with first-year Dodger Blake Snell. A two-time Cy Young winner, Snell will look to push the Dodgers to 3-0 on the season.
