Though technically the Los Angeles Dodgers entered Thursday’s MLB Opening Day with a 2-0 record, it was the first time in which the Boys in Blue were able to celebrate last year’s World Series in in front of their fans.

Seeing as it is LA — flush with celebrities, actors, and industry people — it’s no surprise that the pregame celebration would turn into a massive spectacle ahead of the Dodgers’ 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

For one, the team was wearing special Championship jerseys, which showcased the cursive Dodgers font along with the numbers in gold. The logos on the uniforms and hats popped off the screen and looked spectacular.

As the starting lineup emerged from behind the centerfield wall and ran to home plate, a final guest came to deliver the World Series trophy. It was none other than Ice Cube — the famous LA native who got the crowd in a true frenzy when performing ahead of Game 2 in last year’s World Series triumph over the New York Yankees.

This time, in a blue lowrider Cadillac, Cube drove around the perimeter of the outfield before parking the ride where the players were standing. Sitting in the passenger seat was the World Series trophy, to which he picked up and presented to manager Dave Roberts before warmly embracing.

This truly set the stage for a magical evening at Chavez Ravine. Newly acquired starter Blake Snell picked up the win after allowing two runs over five innings. Despite a relative lack of command, his swing-and-miss stuff was on full display.

Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez both hit homers off reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. For good measure later in the game, Shohei Ohtani also clubbed an opposite field homer off Detroit reliever Brenan Hanifee.

In the 9th, veteran Blake Treinen shut the door by striking out two Tigers. He then allowed a meek Colt Keith pop-up along the first baseline to Freddie Freeman which ended the game.

The Dodgers (3-0) will return to action Friday night as Yoshinobu Yamamoto faces off against last year’s postseason hero, Jack Flaherty.
