5 Dream WrestleMania Matches Featuring Past vs. Present

Thinking about potential matchups versus people or teams from different eras is always a fun thought exercise to delve into.

In this case, hypothetical wrestling matches between present talent and those from the past are often bandied about on various media platforms.

It got us thinking…which five hypothetical matches would bring the proverbial house down featuring past and present talent? Let’s take it a step further and create said matches as WrestleMania main events.

Bron Breakker vs. Kurt Angle

This match would be a masterclass in sheer power, speed, athleticism, and pedigree.

Pedigree comes from Breakker’s familial links to the sport. Father Rick Steiner and uncle Scott Steiner were massive stars within the business for decades. Angle’s prowess as an Olympic medalist wrestler also comes into play. Both of these guys are/were physical powerhouses. They’re also built similarly as well — thus making a hypothetical pairing of the two a realistic and smart one.

CM Punk vs. Ric Flair

There would be an excellent juxtaposition here between Punk and Flair.

On one hand, you’ve got a guy who prides himself on being straight-edge. He’s a bit scruffy and rough around the edges. The other boasts about the number of women he gets with and is dripping in jewelry, diamond-encrusted robes, and a lifestyle of luxury.

With those differences aside, both are exceptionally good on the mic. They also aren’t muscled-up guys. They look like the average person you’d see walking on the street (save for the insane endurance each wrestler would bring to the table). A full storyline between these two culminating with a match at WrestleMania would be a massive draw.

Jacob Fatu vs. The Rock

This would be a fun one.

Fatu is just coming into his own as a performer on the biggest stage. You can see the wheels starting to turn where he’ll break out sooner than later as a main eventer. His work on the mic continues to get better and better, and the athleticism/intensity combination he has is unlike much of the roster.

Pairing him with a real-life family member — and one that’s traditionally over with crowds all over the world — would be a dream. Seeing Fatu and The Rock trading verbal barbs with one another before the physical ones would cause some major attention.

Logan Paul vs. Rob Van Dam

Logan Paul gets plenty of grief for being…Logan Paul. He’s a controversial personality and some genuinely don’t like him nor understand how he’s a professional wrestler.

But give him credit — he knows how to manipulate the eyeballs that are on him. He takes real-life heat and translates it very well to the ring. Even as a part-time performer, Paul has proven to be one of the more physically gifted wrestlers in the business.

Throwing him in a match with a similarly gifted guy in RVP would make for a true banger. If we made this a traditional hardcore match, all bets would be off as to who’d come out on top.

Drew McIntyre vs. The Undertaker

McIntyre has proven to be a heck of a worker. You can throw him into any sort of feud or match, and he thrives.

Size-wise, he’s one of the more physically imposing wrestlers currently on either roster. He would match up quite well with a prime ‘Taker. Both uniquely have the same trait where they’re ‘over’ as heels or faces. There would’ve been some real potential here had both squared off versus one another in their respective primes.
