11-Year-Old Finds Paul Skenes’ 1-of-1 Rookie Card

A 10-year-old boy in Los Angeles caught Freddie Freeman’s grand slam ball in Game 1 of the World Series a few months ago. Freeman’s ball sold for $1.56 million at SCP Auctions in December.

On Tuesday, another youngster in Los Angeles landed a piece of elite MLB memorabilia.

Topps announced that the coveted, one-of-one card featuring Paul Skenes’ autograph and a patch from a game-worn jersey had been found. The lucky fan, an 11-year-old collector in Los Angeles, now has quite the decision on his hands.

The card featuring the National League Rookie of the Year was released on November 13 and Skenes’ club, the Pittsburgh Pirates, wasted no time making their desire to possess the card known. At the time of the card’s release, the Pirates sent out an offer to whoever found the card.

The offer:

  • 2 Pirates season tickets behind home plate for the next 30 years
  • A softball game for 30 at PNC Park + coaching from Pirates alumni
  • A Spring Training experience like no other including:
Private Tour of Pirates City and LECOM Park
Meet n Greet with Paul Skenes
    2 Paul Skenes autographed jerseys
Take Batting Practice/Warm Up with the Team
And other unique experiences at Pirates City and LECOM Park

Additionally, LSU gymnast and influencer Livvy Dunne, Skenes’ girlfriend, offered the person who found the card a chance to watch a game with her in her suite.

While the current value of the card is unknown, there is a chance it could become one of the more valuable sports cards on the market. For an 11-year-old living in Los Angeles, 30 years’ worth of season tickets in Pittsburgh wouldn’t be valuable. However, possessing a one-of-one card featuring one of MLB’s star players? That could be worth a ton of money now and in the future.
