NFL MVP Race Heating Up

1. Josh Allen (-1000)

The MVP is Josh Allen’s to lose entering Week 16. Buffalo’s star quarterback has looked like the best QB in the league for much of the season — with only Lamar Jackson giving him any competition. Allen has thrown 25 touchdown passes and a career-low five interceptions. Additionally, Allen has been a force on the ground with nearly 500 yards and 11 rushing TDs. Over the past two weeks, Allen has accounted for 10 TDs (five passing, five rushing) and over 800 total yards.

2. Lamar Jackson (+700)

Can Lamar Jackson do enough down the stretch to win his third MVP? If anybody is going to challenge Allen for the award, Baltimore’s quarterback is the most likely candidate to do so. The star Raven ranks first in the league in passer rating (120.7), second in QBR (76.0), fifth in passing yards (3,580), and leads all QBs in rushing yards (743). Additionally, Jackson has tossed 34 TDs — his career-high is 36 — and has thrown just three interceptions. Allen would need to falter down the stretch for Jackson to take over pole position, but a third MVP is not a pipe dream.

3. Saquon Barkley (+1400)

As Philadelphia’s passing game continues to underwhelm, Saquon Barkley keeps chugging along. Barkley’s first year with the franchise has gone better than anyone could have hoped. Barkley is averaging a career-high 5.9 yards per carry and currently leads the league with 1,688 yards. His 120.6 yards per game would eclipse his current career-best by over 40 yards. The dynamic runner has also caught 31 passes for 276 yards. In his quest to become the rushing king this year, Barkley has a 214-yard advantage over Derrick Henry and is over 500 yards ahead of third-place (Josh Jacobs).

4. Jared Goff (+2500)

If it weren’t for a five interception day in November, Jared Goff would have a better shot at winning MVP. Goff has guided Detroit to 12 wins thus far and is in command of one of the league’s elite attacks. The former No. 1 pick is second in passing yards (3,759), second in completion percentage (71.4%), and fourth in touchdowns (30). Excluding his five interceptions against Houston, Goff has thrown just one INT since Week 3.

5. Sam Darnold (+10000)

Who would have thought Sam Darnold would be in this position? Entering this season, Darnold’s first with the Vikings, the former No. 3 pick had a 21-35 record as a starting quarterback and had thrown 63 touchdowns and 56 interceptions. Through Week 15, Darnold has led Minnesota to a 12-2 record while performing like a high-level QB. In addition to completing over 67% of his passes, Darnold has thrown 29 TDs — his previous career-high was 19 — and is above 3,500 yards. Whether it is with the Vikings or another team, Darnold has likely earned himself a big contract in the offseason.
