Will Paul Heyman Join CM Punk Amid Tension With Roman Reigns?

WWE put on its latest PLE this past Saturday in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada entitled Survivor Series: War Games.

The main event featured the ‘OG’ Bloodline (Jey and Jimmy Uso, Sami ‘Uso’ Zayn, Roman Reigns) versus the newer heel iteration (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Jacob Fatu, Bronson Reed).

The former needed a fifth member to even the odds. Enter ‘The Wiseman’ Paul Heyman — trusted counsel of Reigns and a longtime associate of the family. A week before the event, Heyman appeared out of nowhere — bringing with him the fifth member of the Bloodline faction in the form of the mercurial CM Punk.

Punk and Reigns had a sit-down with Heyman moderating. Reigns was clearly wary of Punk’s intentions — and he only agreed to help out the faction as a ‘favor’ to Heyman.

As the match played out, Reigns and Punk had their differences — though Punk ultimately saved Reigns from being smushed on a table courtesy of a tsunami off the top of the cage from Reed.

While there’s an uneasiness about Punk and Reigns, the narrative more so is fascinating from the Heyman angle. He had been Reigns’s right-hand man for years. Once Reigns took a lengthy absence from the company, Heyman was targeted by the new faction. He even endured some physical punishment after pleading with Punk to accompany him rather than Solo and the rest of his crew.

Once the main event ended, you watched as Punk and Heyman embraced in a huge hug. The two spoke about the ‘favor’ Heyman eventually owes Punk. When pressed about the detailings of the favor the week prior by Reigns, Heyman relented — and said he’d discuss it in detail with Reigns after the match.

Even more interesting, Reigns didn’t offer Heyman a hug in the aftermath of the match finishing. He instead gently put his hand across his cheek, and walked off.

Surely, a Punk-Reigns storyline would be wildly fascinating. The WWE Universe would likely enjoy it a fair amount considering both superstars are very over at this given time. As for Heyman…is he on the cusp of turning his back on Reigns in favor of Punk?

While he’s become a bit of a babyface in recent years, he’s still the same clever, conniving guy we saw orchestrate the invasion of WWE by WCW/ECW personnel years ago.

A heel Heyman is great for the WWE from an entertainment standpoint. In terms of a potential storyline, it would make sense to see him flip back to his usual persona.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
